The Kavli Nanoscience Institute established the KNI Catalyst Award in 2021 to recognize researchers in the nanoscience community who contribute to improving STEM and Caltech through active leadership and engagement in community building activities.


We are very pleased to announce the winners of the 2025 KNI Catalyst Award. First prize is awarded to graduate student Rachel Tham for her outsized efforts in supporting her fellow Caltech community members through her dedicated leadership in the Caltech Y, Womxn in EAS, and the Everhart Lecture Series. Second prize is shared between graduate students Ivy Chen and Emanuel Green for their laudable contributions via mentorship and community building via the Graduate Student Research Initiative, Caltech Connection, SURF, and more.
