Alireza Marandi Receives 2019 Okawa Foundation Research Grant

Marandi receives grant for research project in nonlinear photonics.

Alireza Marandi, Assistant Professor of Electrical Engineering and Applied Physics, is the recipient of a 2019 Okawa Foundation Research Grant for his research project entitled "Non-Von Neumann Computing Using Nonlinear Photonics". The award honors top early career researchers from China, Japan, Korea, and the USA who work in areas of information and telecommunications.

Marandi is one of eight US scientists to receive this year's award. US awardees are given $10,000 USD to carry out their research projects. Previous recipients from Caltech include Aaron Ames, Bren Professor of Mechanical and Civil Engineering and Control and Dynamical Systems. and Elizabeth Hong, Clare Boothe Luce Assistant Professor of Neuroscience.
